Latest News & ViewsDistrict Handicraft CompetitionOn Saturday 28th January 2006, Libby, George, Izzy, Nathan and Ellie entered the District Handicraft Competition, held at Upton Priory School. Some ten to twelve cub packs took part. The theme was food and they had to make a supermarket trolley containing six items of food, design a menu and make a meal on a tray. They could just use the odd bits and pieces they had taken with them. No help from Leaders was allowed. When the results were called out, Rainow had won TWO sections, the supermarket trolley and the tray of food (spaghetti bolognaise), and so were also the overall winners. They brought back two large Cups and a Shield. They now get to go to Ellesmere Port on 4th March to compete in the County Finals. Five-A-Side Football CompetitionOn Saturday 11th February we entered a team (Jack, Rosie, James, Max, Dominic, Charlie and Henry) in the annual five-a-side, held at Macclesfield Leisure Centre. This is a long nerve-wracking day as there are long waits between the games. We got off to a flying start, winning our first game 5 - 1, we then unfortunately just lost the second game but won the third game convincingly. We nearly got through to the quarter finals as the highest scoring losing team, but narrowly missed a place after a penalty shoot out against Lindlow. The team played very well, the day's winners being the team that beat them earlier. Football LeagueDespite losing quite a few of our older players during the season, we have done very well: winning through to the top half of the League; holding the record for the longest unbeaten run; and highest goal difference. We may have just lost out on winning the League due to playing one less game than 6th Wilmslow (this was due to a cancellation by another team who hadn't enough players). There is a possibility that we may be able to play this game, and, providing we can win, be joint winners of the League or Runners Up. The team have turned out in some very bad weather and deserve a round of applause for their team spirit, especially those cubs who have turned up for games to ensure we had enough players. Pantomime NightIn February we held our now-famous Pantomime Night, quite a big occasion in the village. With so many cubs (32), we split into two and performed 'Snow White and the Eight Dwarves' and 'Dick Whittington with his Two Cats'. The hall was packed with an audience of over 100; some said they hadn't laughed so much since the last one! Some of the cubs made worringly beautiful ladies although their high heels gave them some problems. Supporting acts included a visit from 'Jake the Peg' (with his extra leg), a very good recital of 'Albert and the Lion', magic, trick guitar playing, piano pieces and more. The Beavers performed 'Cinderella', and the Guides joined us with 'Mog in Trainers' - a variation of 'Puss in Boots'. |
